Starbucks Tokyo by Kengo Kuma

Breaking the mode of traditional and stoic design of Starbucks, Kengo Kuma has completed what is probably the world’s most idiosyncratic Starbucks Coffee Shop in Tokyo. Kuma used 6mm square blocks — intersecting obliquely — to create a nestled environment, while fitting in with traditional Japanese streetscape. The 6mm square blocks are not only intrinsic to the design, but is a key component to the ceiling support. To have an in-person look at this creation, you’ll find the Starbucks situated on the street that leads to Dazaifu Tenmagu, a shrine dedicated to a Japanese deity
