LowLine: An Underground Park on NYC’s Lower East Side
We all love the hustle and bustle of New York City, at least some of us do. The city is beautiful with great history and culture, not to mention a medley of great food. Buildings are built vertically rather than horizontally because of the scarcity of land.
With land so scarce, parks are an afterthought and we all like parks. Why not build them on roof tops? Not accessible and expensive to build and maintain. Underground? Sounds crazy, but the Dan Barasch and James Ramsey are Co-Founders of the Delancey Underground project which wants to transform an abandoned trolley terminal on the Lower East Side of Manhattan into the world’s first underground park.
